Blue Cat's PatchWork

multi-channel plugin wrapper and multi-fx unit

I use this one to create effect chains that can be easily moved between DAWs. Or to load (older) plugins that otherwise are too glitchy to load into the DAW directly. This is not a 32bit-64bit bridger, just a wrapper. On macOS, it can be handy to load for example VST plugins inside Logic Pro (that supports only the AU format) or VST/AU plugins inside ProTools (which supports only AAX format). It also comes with a rich collection of internal plugins (dynamics, distortion, delay, reverb, phase-shifters, eq, utilities). The complete feature list is too long to list here and each update brings something new, so check the link below.

Waves Renaissance Series

still unique after almost 2 decades

RBass

I don’t really know/understand everything that it’s doing (although I’ve read the manual and the patents), but I know it does something no other plugin does. So it’s a keeper. Tip: turn off the Original Bass, and place an EQ before RBass (-30 dB low shelf cut at 100 Hz), drag the Freq at 32 and dial the intensity exactly where you want your bass to be.

RComp

This compressor is so unique, I never encountered something like it. One one hand, it saturates in Warm mode, but only the low end (more control for full mixes, kicks, basses). Then the ratio is gain reduction-dependent (very transparent). Under the hood, there is an L1 limiter on the output stage (can manage those extra rogue peaks)

Waves CLA-76

the go-to for pop vocals

It may very well not be the best 1176 emulation out there, but in the last 20 years everybody involved in Top 40 music are using this plugin on vocals. So now we kind of like the Waves 1176 sound because that what we are used to. Hit it with about 10 dB of gain reduction.
