Xfer OTT

multiband dynamics that tends to be a go-to plugin in Top40 music

Used on the master bus, it sounds extreme at 100% depth, but it adds something special at 9-18% depth (everything else at default). It can get out of hand really easy, so if you’re using it for the first time on a master bus context, make sure you toggle the on/off plenty of times and assess the before and after.

Valhalla Supermassive

a set of 3 free plugins: Freq Echo delay, Space Modulator flanger/doubler and Supermassive reverb/delay

Handy tools for throw effects or build-ups. Supermassive is one of those plugins that makes you wonder why a unit with 21 reverb and delay modes is free.

Kiriki Liszt VLC Compressor and Inflator

emulations for VLC dynamics and Oxford Inflator

Someone noticed that VLC media player has a quite capable audio compressor. And Kiriki coded a free clone of the algorithm. I think the magic resides in the RMS/Peak blend, which changes the speed at which the compressor responds, allowing for more gain reduction without pumping effects. In a way, something similar to an opto-compressor. It’s fully-featured, stable, give it a try.

On the same page you can also find an exact clone of the (in)famous Sonnox Oxford Inflator.
